No Plans For LittleBigPlanet Sequel, Says Media Molecule

Don't hold your breath ready and waiting for a sequel to LittleBigPlanet because the guys at Media Molecule say information technology's not going to bechance.

It is a rude tendency of the videogame industry to make sequels. The best-marketing game of the holidays (yes, I'm calling it now) bequeath be a continuation and the bulk of the most-talked-more or less games for 2010 are sequels, too. And although Activision's Bobby Kotick might be the solitary one to get along right out and say it, you can bet that executives at most senior publishers take the likelihood of followups when they're considering a new title.

International Relations and Security Network't it refreshing, then, when a society bucks the trend and says "no" to a sequel that would almost certainly accept it swimming in cash? Such is the sheath with Media Molecule, the fellowship behind LittleBigPlanet, which revealed in an interview with Critical Gamer that information technology has no plans for a fres LBP.

Why non? Because, according to layer designer Danny Departer, it would "fragmentis" the community. "We'd ne'er want to practice that," he said. "That'd be the most counterproductive thing you could do, I think."

What Media Molecule does want to do is continue releasing updates and downloadable content for the pun, adding to the ton of LittleBigPlanet DLC already available. "I think over what you've seen so far from LittleBigPlanet, that's the way it's departure to continue," added producer Dino Paul Crocetti Lynagh.

The comments vaguely echo the concerns expressed aside the much-maligned Left 4 Gone 2 Boycott, which was launched in part over concerns that a Left-hand 4 Dead sequel, released so soon later the underivative, would render the inaugural game "superannuated" and cause a schism in the fanbase. Whether or not that actually happens, it's pretty cool to see a developer take a pass on a successful subsequence and opt to stay supporting its fans instead.
